Fall CA Recruit 101 - March 9, 2012

If you're interested in pursuing a CA designation, this workshop is one that you can't afford to miss! Come out to this event dressed well and ready to learn. With presentations on CACEE tips, interview tips and networking opportunities, this is a must attend event for those going through recruit this year as well as those who want to get ahead for the future.
Students will also have the chance to practice their networking skills at the event each other, a valuable way to get some tips and feedback to help you build your confidence! Details for the event are:

CGA Connect - March 12, 2012

The Certified General Accountants of B.C. invites you to attend our annual CGA Connect in the Fraser Valley for accounting and business students from Douglas College, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Trinity Western University, and the University of the Fraser Valley. Join us for an evening of networking with CGAs from different industries and explore the career opportunities with various employers from our CGA Partners in Employment Program (PEP). The event will feature a keynote address from CGA Chair of the Board of Governors, Cindy Choi, FCGA, plenty of networking time, a complimentary buffet dinner and fabulous door prizes! Volunteer Opportunity - 2012 Walk for ALS - May 26, 2012
Posted: February-20-2012Gain some valuable experience as a volunteer at the 2012 Walk for ALS!
This year the organizing group would like to invite 10 – 12 volunteers to help with the registration at the event. This is a great opportunity to complete some volunteer work for an organization which is very well recognized in our community and which is also the largest walk for ALS in all of British Columbia. A.L.S., also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressive neuromuscular disease where motor nerve cells die and voluntary muscles degenerate. This fatal disease with no effective treatment has no cure. 80% of people diagnosed with this disease will die within 2-5 yrs. Fundraising from this event provides support for persons living with this illness creates public awareness, and it also provides funding for research towards a cure.
Some of the duties that students will be responsible for include: registration, collecting donations, and handling and counting cash. Students will also get to work alongside some employees of Davidson & Company LLP, Chartered Accountants, during the event. Additionaly, students who volunteer for the event may request a letter stating that they participated as a volunteer during the event, which is always looked upon as a huge asset for any business. - When: Arrive at 8am, duties will conclude around 12pm
- Dress: Casual
In the event that registration fills up, students will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

ACFE Fraud Conference & Scholarship

The ACFE is offering a tremendous opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a fraud-related career and we're asking you to spread the word. A limited number of student scholarships to the 23rd Annual ACFE Fraud Conference and Exhibition are available, which will be hosted in Orlando, June 17-22.
The scholarship includes free registration to the Main Conference, a ticket to the Networking Reception and an ACFE polo shirt. In return, scholarship recipients are required to assist ACFE staff in various areas for a minimum of five hours during the conference. Every effort will be made to assure minimal conflict with the conference sessions and networking events the students wish to attend. Scholarship winners are responsible for their own travel, lodging and dining expenses outside of the meals provided at the conference.
To be eligible, the student must be an ACFE student member with anti-fraud related academic and career interests and submit the following documents by April 20, 2012:
- A statement of 400 words or less describing the way in which their academic and/or career interests relate to the anti-fraud profession. Name and contact information must be included.
- A letter of recommendation written by a professor or employer who is familiar with their work and career interests. The letter must be submitted on official institutional/company letterhead with a visible signature.

Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities
Posted: February-11-2012Attention students! There are two amazing scholarships available in the next few weeks for accounting students seeking the CA designation, as well as students who are leaders in their community.
CA Education Foundation Scholarship
The CA Education Foundation is pleased to offer seven awards of $1000 each to students attending several educational institutions in British Columbia. Students must be in their final year of their diploma or degree program. Recipients will receive their award upon registering with CASB or the ACIA program. Student Leadership Awards
Attention Student Leaders!
New this year - The Division of Student Life and Community would like to introduce two NEW Student Leadership Awards. These awards have been developed to recognize the contribution that dedicated leaders like yourselves have given to KPU and to the community at large.
Contribution to Student Life Award:
Value: $500 Number of Awards Available: 20
Awarded to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to Kwantlen student life while also maintaining a good academic standard; who has served for at least one academic year in a volunteer leadership position at Kwantlen (students are required to submit a statement which supports this aspect of the award); and who has contributed to Kwantlen student life in an "above and beyond" manner.
“Giving Back” Citizenship Award:
Value: $500 Number of Awards Available: 4
Awarded to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the external community, while also maintaining a good academic standard. The student will have served in a volunteer or leadership capacity for at least the academic year for which the award is being granted with a program or agency benefitting local, national or international charity work.
*Note*: Students may apply for both awards.
All award recipients will be recognized at the 2012 CELEBRATION OF LEADERSHIP & SERVICE on March 29th, 2012.
ONLINE APPLICATION REQUIRED: These awards will be available through the self-service system and must be completed by the deadline of February 29, 2012.
